Repair Café Continues to Draw Young People

Video by Lon Appleby

On Saturday, July 23, we held another successful repair café in collaboration with the Toronto Public Library, this time at their Queen & Saulter branch in the vibrant Ralph Thornton Community Centre. Throughout the four hours, we received 97 broken items from our visitors who came from diverse backgrounds. In the video above, two young visitors, Ishi and Nancy (French speaking), talk about what they like about the Repair Café and how they would like to get involved.

In this photo above, our fixers Rodney and Dave work together to replace the broken wire of an outdoor umbrella. It was a labour intensive process. Thanks to their dedication and patience, the umbrella regained its life an hour and a half later! This is just one example of the great work done by our many skilled fixers who volunteer their Saturday afternoon to help the community for free.
